Rules and Regulations

 

The Great Barrow Walk is organized by The Academy Health & Fitness Centre, Church Farm, Church Road, Barrow, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. IP29 5AX England hereinafter referred to as the 'Organizers'.

The Great Barrow Walk is a non-competitive walking event. Participation is voluntary and entirely at the walkers' own risk.

All registrations must comply with the conditions laid down by the organizers.
The number of registrations will be limited in accordance with the organizers guidelines.

The Regulations governing Distances and Rewards shall apply to the walking distances and available rewards. Registration is strictly personal and non-transferable.
The registration fee will not be refunded in the event of a participant cancelling their registration.

Walking or marching is defined as moving forwards in such a way that at least one foot is in contact with the ground at all times, alternately transferring the body weight from the left leg to the right leg. The following are therefore not allowed:

    - the use of any objects other than prostheses to substantially aid, replace or support the process of walking
    - the use of any means of transport
    - speed walking, Nordic walking (exerstriding, pole-walking and/or pole trekking) and/or running.


Walkers under the age of 15 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Passing is only allowed if it does not hinder other participants, however, when on narrow paths walkers should keep to the right hand side to make passing possible by faster walkers. Military groups and fast walkers often carry whistles to warn other walkers of their presence, this is acceptable if used in moderation. When hearing the whistles please keep to the right.

Participants must keep to the appropriate designated route.

Throughout the Great Barrow Walk participants are forbidden to:

    - express any political views
    - behave or dress offensively
    - carry and/or distribute advertising material unless so permitted by the Organizers or to:- have with them any pets or other animals (with the exception of guide dogs for visually impaired participants), prams or pushchairs, loud radios or other audio equipment
    - have anything with them which could reasonably be considered to be dangerous or to seriously inconvenience other participants.


Participants are to be decently dressed with the upper body covered at all times.

The provisions of the Regulations Governing the Start and Finish shall apply to the procedures for checking in, starting and finishing.

Participants who fail to report to the finish (correctly and in person) before 18.00 hrs will be deemed to have withdrawn from the event.

Any instructions given by the organizers, police or other officials are to be followed at all times.
Unless expressly indicated otherwise, the Road Traffic Act 1994 and the Traffic and Road Sign Regulations 1990 shall remain in full force throughout the Great Barrow Walk.

Infringement of the provisions laid down in or pursuant to these rules and regulations can result in (conditional) disqualification from (further) participation.
The Regulations Governing Disqualification from the Great Barrow Walk shall apply to any (conditional) disqualification.

Any instructions given by the organizers, police or other officials are to be followed at all times.
Unless expressly indicated otherwise, the Road Traffic Act 1994 and the Traffic and Road Sign Regulations 1990 shall remain in full force throughout the Great Barrow Walk.

Infringement of the provisions laid down in or pursuant to these rules and regulations can result in (conditional) disqualification from (further) participation.
The Regulations Governing Disqualification from the Great Barrow Walk shall apply to any (conditional) disqualification.
The Great Barrow Walk Anti-Doping Rules will apply for all participants.

By registering to participate in the Great Barrow Walk the participant declares that he/she is familiar with and accepts the provisions laid down by or pursuant to these rules and regulations.

By registering the participant also agrees to the possible use by the Organizers of his/her personal details and/or image in print, on photograph, film or video etc, for promotional or informative purposes in the interest of the Great Barrow Walk, without being entitled to demand payment.
The use of aforementioned material shall be governed by the Great Barrow Walk Privacy Regulations

Barring its legal liability, the Organizers shall not be responsible or (financially) liable for any accidents and/or illness suffered by the participant, for loss of property, or for any other damages allegedly suffered by the participant.

The Organizers reserves the right to alter the route, starting and/or finishing times and/or points, or to cancel the Great Barrow Walk, completely or in part, on the grounds of such extreme weather conditions or other calamity or calamities that Organizers cannot reasonably be expected to do otherwise. In such cases participants will not be entitled to a refund of the registration fee, nor to any compensation for material or immaterial damages incurred.

Any cases not provided for by these rules and regulations shall be decided by the Organizers who will ensure that the appropriate regulations laid down by or pursuant to these Rules and Regulations are adequately publicized or otherwise communicated to all participants.
